I’ve been pretty slack about being on here except to post when a new thing launches or a new chapter goes up.
However, I have been treating my personal Tumblr as a sort of, among other things, repository for various essays on various things that comes to mind.
Here are a few I’ve done recently that I actually like.
- I wrote something (and plan on following up on it) about a debate and cultural shift in cartooning/comics, my own stance on it as a writer and the amount of work I actually do seemingly being belittled in favor of comic artists. I feel like it was part of getting an interesting discussion going and contributed an alternative side to the whole thing. Like I said, I’m hoping to get more on this out.
- Yesterday I wrote a little something-something about Matt Wagner and his writing style, specifically as I’ve been re-reading and re-collecting his magnum opus comic series from the 80’s and 90’s, GRENDEL. I’m a big Wagner fan, I love talking about writing, and getting people talking about writing. If you’re into that and familiar with GRENDEL, check it out.
- In a fit of stupidity, I wrote about music again, reviewing For The Boats by the band State Lines. I got a promotional copy of the record a while back from people, and never got around to listening to it until recently. SPOILER ALERT: I liked it. I feel that if I limit my music writing, I might actually do it again, primarily because I can’t help talking about what I like.
So there you go. I’m sure I’ll come up with more when I should be working on chapters of various other stuff or actual paid work like lesson plans and shit,
